When is the conference?

Saturday, February 19, 2005. It will run from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM with a soirée at the nearby Take 5 Cafe to follow. Check the schedule for all the details.

Where is the conference?

The conference will be held in the downtown campus of the University of British Columbia. This is conveniently-located in Robson Square in downtown Vancouver. There are instructions on how to reach the downtown campus here (and here's an annotated map of the immediate area, with photos).

Who is NorthernVoice for?

Bloggers, people interested in becoming bloggers and those keen to learn more about personal publishing.

What will the conference's format be?

We intend to divide the day between presentations and discussion sessions. The presentations will be traditional seminars, with one or more speakers speaking on a particular aspect of weblogs and personal publishing. The discussion sessions will be open-mike 'teach-ins', where facilitators will lead a group conversation on a blogging-related topic.

What topics will be covered at NorthernVoice?

This depends, in part, on what the speakers want to talk about. We assembled a list of recommended topics for speaker submissions, but subject matter isn't necessarily limited to this list:

Who are the speakers going to be?

The full list of speakers has been posted, but of particular note are the keynote speakers, Tim Bray and Robert Scoble.

How do I apply to become a speaker?

Sadly, that ship has sailed, but if you have specific questions or suggestions, please contact us.

How do I become a sponsor at Northern Voice?

We love sponsors! The conference has 12 wise and wonderful sponsors already, and we welcome your participation. Email us for adoration and more information.

Will there be exhibitors at Northern Voice?

No. In our first year, we're trying to stay humble and keep things simple. Our sponsors, however, will be permitted to post advertising, hand out literature and informally demo their products and services.

How much does attendance cost?

If you register in advance (which we heartily encourage), it's a mere CAN $20. If you register at the door, you pay CAN $30.

Why isn't Northern Voice free?

It's a community-based and non-profit event, and, in an ideal world, the conference would be free. However, there are some basic costs that we need to cover. These include venue rental, audio/video, refreshments, collateral printing, etc. We made a budget and set the price as low as we could while still covering our anticipated costs.

Why is the conference so cheap?

We're not out to make money, and we're community-minded. We fully expect that you'll get far more value out of NorthernVoice than the price reflects. Plus, you have to buy your own lunch.

Will there be Wifi at Northern Voice?

Is the Pope a Catholic?

If I'm a speaker, will Northern Voice pay my travel expenses/hotel costs/honorarium?

NorthernVoice is a community-based, non-profit event that can't cover speaker expenses or offer speakers an honorarium, but we will have coffee available whenever you need it.
